A Message from the Head of Primary

As we head into our final week of the school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been another successful and rewarding year in Primary. Our students have demonstrated incredible growth in their learning and it has been wonderful to see so many parents engaging with the life of the school through Exit Points, performances, Sports Days, assemblies and other community events.

I would like to thank our families for their continued support and partnership throughout the year. To those families who are leaving Greengates, we wish you every success and happiness on the next stage of your journey and hope that you will always remain part of the Greengates family. To our returning families, and those joining our community for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 24th August for another exciting year of learning, growth and achievement.

NOTES FOR THE YEAR GROUPS

Nursery

Our Nursery astronauts proudly welcomed their families to our ‘Blast Off!’ Exit Point, where they shared everything they have learnt throughout the unit about space. Dressed as astronauts, the children confidently explored the museum with their parents, explaining their learning about the solar system, the Moon, stars, rockets, and space exploration. Families enjoyed visiting the different interactive stations and celebrating the children’s creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. We are incredibly proud of our little astronauts and all they have achieved during this exciting journey through space!

Reception

The Reception students transformed the Auditorium lobby into a pop-up Art Gallery, proudly guiding their parents through their learning journey. It was incredible to see them share their masterpieces and reflect on a term full of imagination, art, and discovery. Thank you to all the families who joined us to celebrate! We also want to give a huge shout-out to Blanquita and Lupillo in the bodega, who supplied all the materials we needed to bring this gallery to life!

Year 1

This week, our Year 1 students have been enthusiastically engaged in Father’s Day activities, while also exploring the classic story of Dogger in English. As we approach the conclusion of our unit, The Magic Toymaker, the children are filled with excitement and wonder, reflecting on all they have learned and experienced. Their creativity, collaboration, and joy have made this journey truly special, and we look forward to the new discoveries that await them next school year.

Year 2

As the school year winds down, our spirited Year 2 children have been on a wonderful journey of learning and growth! They’ve shown remarkable progress in their phonics and math skills, making us all very proud. A highlight of their year was the delightful visit to the reception art exhibition, where their enthusiasm and appreciation for creativity truly shone.

Year 3

Our Year 3 students used their creativity and engineering skills to design and build structures capable of withstanding the forces of an earthquake. Through teamwork and innovation, they rose to the challenge and should all be very proud of their achievements.

Year 4

Year 4 had an amazing experience this week. As we have been learning all about the respiratory system, the secondary biology teachers kindly offered to demonstrate a lung dissection. We identified parts of the lungs and blew them up to simulate breathing. Thank you so much secondary teachers!

Year 5

Year 5 combined science and technology to create LEGO Robotics models that demonstrated the process of pollination. Using their creativity and engineering skills, students designed moving models to show how pollen is transferred between flowers, helping to bring this important life cycle process to life.

Year 6

Year 6 have been busy boat building this week for the exit point next Thursday. We have also been practising ready for the celebration assembly at 9 am on Tuesday. Congratulations to all of our actors and actresses for their wonderful performances in the Wizard of Oz today!

Spanish Department

During the “Here, Now, There and Then” Social Studies unit, the Year 5 students learned about the history of trains and the evolution of communication over time. As part of their learning, they explored how railways transformed travel and connected people and places. After completing a project, the students designed and built their own trains and created unique railway routes to explore different destinations. This hands-on activity allowed them to apply their knowledge creatively while developing their understanding of transportation, geography, and historical change.
